Mysuru: Mysuru Taluk Panchayat (TP) Executive Officer C.R. Krishnakumar said that Gram Panchayats will reserve one day in a month for clearing the encroachment of burial ground lands in villages.
Speaking at the Taluk Panchayat General Meeting at the TP Office in Nazarbad here on Tuesday, he said that the TP has come to know of the encroachments of burial grounds in villages and action will be taken to ensure that there will be no further encroachments.
Referring to the problems faced in the disposal of wastes in rural areas, he said that the TP has found that 37 villages in the taluk were facing a lot of problems in the disposal of waste. Noting that the TP had sent a proposal to the Government seeking establishment of 21 Waste Disposal Units, he said that the Government has released Rs. 2.4 crore for the purpose and works on the construction of the units will commence soon. Apart from this, it has also been decided to declare three schools in every GP limits as plastic-free zones, he said and added that the school children will be educated on waste segregation and recycling of plastic wastes.
Government Hostels
TP Member Hanumanthu raised the issue of Government Hostels being run from private buildings in the taluk limits. Claiming that three SC/ST Hostels, 21 BCM Hostels and seven Social Welfare Department Hostels were running in rented private buildings, for which the Government is paying an annual rent of Rs. 4.25 crore, Hanumanthu alleged that most of the hostels were lacking in civic amenities.
Backward Classes Welfare Department Officer Sujendra Prasad said that the hostels are being run from private buildings for long and this system has continued. Also measures have been taken for better civic amenities at hostels, he added.
TP President Kalamma Kemparamaiah presided over the meeting. TP Vice-President N.B. Manju and others were present.
