Grand World Music Concert by Intl. Musicians in Mysuru tomorrow

Sree Mookambika Creations and Uttara Kannada Samskruthika Sangha of Mysuru are presenting a unique World Music Concert on Friday, 18th January, at Uttara Kannada Jilla Samskruthika Sangha Grounds, G&H Block, Gange Road, Kuvempunagar (opposite Lava-Kusha Park). Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will be the chief guest.

Six prominent internationally acclaimed artistes led by Dr. Mysore M. Manjunath, the violinist, are playing on the same stage to bring out a special musical experience to the knowledgeable audience of the cultural capital of Karnataka. Though these musicians are practitioners of different genres, the common thread unifying them is the fact that music is a blending force, beyond geographies and histories.

From a child prodigy to a trail blazer, Mysore Manjunath has been captivating audiences and critics. Be it the Royal Albert Hall-London, the Sydney Opera House, Santa Fe Music Festival, Oxford University, Federation Square, Melbourne, the Madras Music Academy, he has enthralled music-lovers all over. Manjunath has been honoured with numerous awards which include the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award, the Kannada Rajyotsava Award, Music Academy’s Best Violinist Award and Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham’s Asthana Vidwan Award.

Alice Barron, the London-based Western Classical Violinist is a performer and researcher. This founding member of World Music Group, Iyatra Quartet is passionate about collaborating and creating new music with artistes from all musical traditions. Her cross disciplinary arts projects include working with contemporary dance, live poetry, story-telling and theatre.

Fulvio Sigurta is an acclaimed Trumpet player. He has a Diploma in Classical Trumpet and Jazz and a Master’s with distinction. He has recorded with Cam Jazz on the project ‘Pure & Simple’ and was involved in Gianni Coscia’s quartet together with Dino Piana and Enjo Petropaoli for the album ‘Frescobaldi per noi’.

Giuliano Modarelli, a brilliant guitarist, composer and producer has a unique voice. Adept at Jazz, he went on to develop through the Indian classical tradition also. He is the co-founder of the award-winning music collective Kefaya. He regularly collaborates across disciplines with artistes such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaomi, Gregory Maqoma, Mavin Khoo etc.

B.C. Manjunath, a renowned percussionist, is a disciple of Karnataka Kalashree K.N. Krishnamurthy and Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. T.K. Murthy . Graded A at AIR, he was chosen for the Ustad Bismilla Khan Yuva Puraskar. He has performed at prestigious venues like the Theatre de la Ville-Paris, Queen Elizabeth Hall – London, Sydney Opera House, Lincoln House – New York, to name a few.

Pramath Kiran, a great performer on the Tabla, Morching, Jaws Harp, Drums, Congo, etc., has introduced the Afro Cuban percussion and rhythm structures into Karnatak classical style. He has worked with famous music directors like Hamsalekha, Gurukiran and Upendra Kumar.

Vivek Santhosh, a gifted pianist, graduated from the Trinity School of Music. He is well-known for his mastery of the instrument and brilliance in musical expressions.

An eclectic treat in store for the music-lovers of Mysuru at one go.
