Hunsur: A grandfather and his grandson, who had taken their cattle to a lake for the cows to drink water, met their watery grave after they fell into the lake at Yamagumba village in the taluk on yesterday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Eerappaji (60) and his grandson Ullas (6).
It is reported that Eerappaji, at about 1 pm on Saturday took his cows to the lake to drink water, when he was joined by his grandson Ullas, who together went to the lake.
When they approached the lake, the cow, Ullas was holding, rushed towards the lake dragging Ullas and fell into the lake. Eerappaji, who heard Ullas’s cry for help rushed for his help and ventured into the lake.
As de-silting works were undertaken during summer, a part of the lake had become deep and Eerappaji, fell into it and drowned. Their bodies were later fished out from the lake.
Last rites of Eerappaji and Ullas were performed yesterday evening in the village.
The villagers, who were celebrating the festival of the village deity, plunged into grief on hearing the news.
