Nanjangud – A group of people who were prevented by the flying squad from distributing money and other freebies to voters tried to assault a videographer from the squad yesterday. The videographer was recording money being distributed to voters at Neelakantanagar in Nanjangud town.
After the incident, videographer Devegowda lodged a complaint with the Nanjangud Town Police Station. The Police later arrested one Ananthu. Hearing about the incident, party workers from both Congress and BJP assembled at the Police Station and hurled abuses at each other. The Police had a tough time in controlling the crowd.
Chamarajanagar Member of Parliament R. Dhruvanarayan’s Personal Assistant (PA) Nagesh was picked up by the Police on charges of distributing money to the voters. Nagesh was subjected to intense interrogation and Rs. 70,000 in cash was seized.
Another BJP worker was arrested by the poll flying squad for distributing money to voters and Rs. 23,500 cash was seized. He has been identified as Tailor Mahadevu of Channapatna. Hullahalli Police have registered a case. His accomplices Meenakshamma, Siddaiah and Doddachennaiah managed to escape.
