Mysuru: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) had organised a two-day “AWS Generative AI Ideathon” here recently.

GSSS Secretary Anupama B. Pandit, Board Member and CEO R.K. Bharath, extended their support in organising this event at GSSSIETW.

This highly anticipated event was meticulously designed to offer students an immersive learning experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its real-world applications.

The first day began with a comprehensive hands-on workshop led by Akanksha Rai Sharma, Technical Program Manager, India and South Asia, AWS Academy, exclusively for all third-year students across various engineering branches.

This training session aimed to equip participants with in-depth knowledge of AI-powered tools and cutting-edge technologies, empowering them with the skills needed to innovate and excel in the AI domain.

Following the workshop, students participated in a competitive quiz to assess their understanding of the concepts covered.

 Bhavesh Patel, Head of Talent Acquisition and Education Initiatives at Aspire For Her, shared valuable insights on industry connections for young minds. The top 100 students were shortlisted for the Deep Dive Session, where they were presented with a problem statement, challenging them to develop innovative and practical AI-driven solutions.

On the second day, the shortlisted students had the opportunity to present their creative ideas before a distinguished panel of evaluators. The presentation featured three parallel panel sessions, where AWS officials, along with GSSSIETW faculty members, served as jury members, meticulously evaluating each solution based on feasibility, originality and impact.

The valedictory ceremony marked the grand conclusion of the event, with Wendy Corns, Global Head – Tech Alliance, AWS, as the Chief Guest, and D. P. Singh, Head – Tech Alliance, India, as the guest of honour.

Addressing the students, Wendy Corns emphasised the significance of selecting the right domain early in their careers, offering valuable insights into career growth and industry trends.

The top three winners of AWS Generative AI Ideathon were recognised for their exceptional contributions and rewarded with exciting prizes and exclusive goodies. Principal of GSSSIETW,                                                                         Dr. M. Shivakumar, highlighted the importance of Ideathon in fostering innovation and                               problem-solving skills among students.

The event was successfully organised and hosted by Dr. P. Raviraj, Professor and Head, Department of CSE, S. Mahadeva Prasad, Head – Training and Placement and Associate Professors Dr. M.B. Rajashekar and Dr. J. Vishwesh, with the dedicated support of the faculty members of CSE Department.
