GST Migration Centre opens at MIA
Mysuru: Mysore Industries Association (MIA) had organised an awareness programme on Goods and Services Tax (GST) at its premises in Metagalli here yesterday.
Inaugurating the programme, MLA and MIA President Vasu said that GST was being introduced for the first time after Independence and a lot of awareness programmes should be held for the public to understand the merits of GST.
Speaking on the occasion, District Industries Centre (DIC) Joint Director H. Ramakrishnegowda opined that many entrepreneurs were still ignorant of GST modalities and they need to be groomed well.
Appreciating the GST system, MIA Vice-President Umesh K. Shenoy said that GST would bring a uniform taxation system in the country.
Briefing the gathering, Joint Commissioner of Commercial Taxes B.N. Giriyannanavar said that the Government has allowed people to pay tax as per the old VAT system for July and August and it would be inevitable to pay tax later on only as per GST.
Speaking on the newly-opened GST Migration Centre at the Association premises, MIA Secretary Suresh Kumar Jain said that the Centre would function daily from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm.
He asked all entrepreneurs, who are migrating from VAT to GST, to approach with all necessary documents to obtain free service. Several entrepreneurs participated in the meeting.
