GST on Sanitary Napkins

Former ZP President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath (extreme left), who launched a signature campaign demanding the removal of GST on sanitary napkins, along with other women Congress leaders, is seen posting a letter in that connection to Union Minister Nirmala Seetharaman, at Saraswathipuram Post Office in city yesterday.

Mysuru: Former Zilla Panchayat President Dr. Pushpa B. Amarnath, who launched a signature campaign demanding the removal of GST (Goods and Services Tax) on sanitary napkins first in Hunsur and then at Maharani’s College and Yuvaraja College in Mysuru, has now intensified the campaign by posting a letter in this regard to Union Minister Nirmala Seetharaman, at Saraswathipuram Post  Office here yesterday.

Stating that a memorandum was also submitted to the Union Minister  who was in city recently, Dr. Pushpa said that the GST on sanitary napkins has been hiked from 5 percent to 12 percent, which is against the very ethos of women and girls.

Observing the hike in GST would force many women to adopt unhygienic practices, Dr. Pushpa urged the Union Minister to take up the issue with the Finance Minister and the Prime Minister and make sanitary napkins tax free and distribute  them free of cost through the PDS to all the women belonging to BPL families.
