Hailstorm uproots roof of veterinary hospital

Mysore: The hailstorm that lashed the city on Thursday evening uprooted the asbestos roof of Government Veterinary Hospital in Ittigegud here. The asbestos sheets got broken into pieces on falling to the ground.

The hospital opened to sky got flooded submerging the furniture. The hailstones broke the glass top of tables. A few medicine was also damaged. A major fatality was averted as none was present then at the hospital. The loss is estimated at Rs.50,000 and beyond, according to officials.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Department of Animal Husbandry Deputy Director Ajith said: “I have inspected the damage after the incident. Only the roof sheets are broken. The furniture is intact but wet because of submersion in water. The medicines kept in the cupboard are safe, so also the records. The roof of the 20 ft x 50 ft building has to be redone with new asbestos sheets for which a proposal would be sent to the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) CEO and approval obtained to relay the sheets immediately.”
