Kushalnagar: The mega repair works of Harangi dam across Cauvery river at Hulugunda near here is all set to be complete in a month.
The Harangi Dam, one of the major dams in Cauvery valley, was built over three decades ago.
The Irrigation Department with a purpose of plugging leakages and further strengthening of the Dam, undertook repair works at an estimated cost of Rs.10 crore, with financial assistance from World Bank.
The works include repair of crest gates of the Dam and Canals lining.
The tender for repair work was bagged by one S. Narayana Reddy, a class I contractor. The repair works is almost complete, with about 30 workers engaged in the works daily. Most of these workers belong to Yadgir district.
Harangi Dam Executive Engineer Dharmaraj, speaking to SOM, said that with most of the works complete, the Department has released Rs.7.5 crore to the contractor and the remaining amount will be paid only after all the works are complete.
Pointing out that all the works are being executed as directed by World Bank officials, he said that a team of overseas experts will inspect the works.
