Harmony for buildings

By S.B.S. Surendran, Accredited Master Feng Shui Consultant

The  term ‘Feng Shui Compatibility’ is actually the influence of  how the energy of a building affects a person (or the people) living or working in it.

Feng Shui per se has a wide range of levels, from the individual energy of the building, to the individual energy of the person, to the energy of the year, etc. In other words it’s a study of the “building-person compatibility” which is analysing how the energy of a building supports or disturbs the person living or working in that building. When aligned and tuned properly the energy of a building can aid in the progress or act as an obstacle. This can be corrected only by analysing the space and harmonising it in accordance with the principles of Feng Shui.

The basic analysis of the impact of any building on the occupants is by meaning you move into a building and if your life improves it means it’s good for you; if it gets worse it means it’s not. This is a bit drastic and not very time effective, but this is how most people have done it throughout their lives so far.

Identifying the Feng Shui of the property and locating the good and bad sectors would be the best approach and one can work around the weak zones, or even “cut out” the weak spots from the building design or the interior. Similarly, locating the good sectors can help in enhancing the Feng Shui of the property, and position important activities within a home or office including locating the working space for the boss.

Some of the general guidelines to create a prosperous home or office space are:

  • Look for the exterior Feng Shui: Ensure that there is nothing piercing or obstructing your building. A good Feng Shui premises is one which has no Sha Chi (attacking) or low energy flow. Observe the surrounding with “Feng Shui” eyes and ensure the backyard is not sloping away.
  • Study energy flow towards main door: Obstacle-free main door which looks inviting is the first sign of prosperity coming into the building. Look for obstacles like trees or design features of the building which is blocking the main entry. Ensure recycle bins and trash is not in the vicinity of main door.
  • 3 important Zones: The main sectors for a home apart from the above are the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Ensure all three areas have a strong Feng Shui foundation and always be aware of the quality of energy in these three energy points of the home.
  • Feel good factor and Feng Shui Energy: The feel of the building indicates the type of nourishment the occupants can derive. Everything around us is in constant flow, in constant change. Merely creating a strong Feng Shui foundation for the building is not enough, one has to get into the habit of keeping the energy fresh and free flowing, and hence periodic maintenance is required. De-clutter the space especially closet, garage and carry out spring cleaning.

A building with good Feng Shui is one which has fresh Feng Shui energy, expresses itself in a clean space, fresh air, plenty of good light, creating happiness, prosperity and harmony.
