Mandya: A Head Constable, attached to Nagamangala Rural Police Station, was killed on the spot, when a KSRTC bus collided head on with the bike he was riding near Kodikoppal Cross in the taluk yesterday.
The deceased Head Constable is Venkatesh (50), a resident of Danayakanapura in Mandya taluk. Venkatesh was proceeding on his bike to the Office of the District Superintendent of Police (SP) carrying documents related to a Court.
When he neared Kodikoppal Cross, a KSRTC bus collided head-on with the bike resulting in Venkatesh falling on the road and sustaining serious injuries to his head. He died on the spot.
Police personnel, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar and shifted the body to MIMS Hospital, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members.
Basaralu Police, who have registered a case, have seized the bus and are making efforts to trace the driver who had fled from the spot after the accident.
Venkatesh had served at Shivalli, Mandya East and Srirangapatna Police Stations and was currently serving at Nagamangala Rural Police Station and was deployed on Court duty.
