Utter chaos and traffic jams in and around K.R. Circle continued this morning too where vehicles, pedestrians and students jostled for space to reach their destination. Reason: The closure of a stretch of Bengaluru-Nilgiri (B.N.) Road between Hardinge Circle and Gun House Circle for road works. The stretch will remain closed for the next two months.
Though the road was closed on Saturday, its effects were not seen on that day and Sunday as the density of traffic was less on weekend. Chaos began yesterday morning during peak hours as office-goers, students, public, shoppers and traders headed towards their schools and workplaces. Traffic snarls were witnessed this morning between Chamaraja Circle and K.R. Circle on Albert Victor Road as well as on the stretch of Sayyaji Rao Road between the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) building and K.R. Circle.
A large number of motorists who usually use B.N. Road after reaching Hardinge Circle (Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Circle) were forced to ply on the ever-busy Albert Victor Road as the B.N. Road stretch was closed. Similarly, motorists, who take the B.N. Road after reaching Gun House Circle, had to take the Sayyaji Rao Road only to be caught in the K.R. Circle traffic jams.
The peak hours witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic in and around K.R. Circle and entry and exit of buses from the city bus stand made matters worse. Seeing choked roads, some of the motorists were seen taking a deviation at Chamaraja Circle towards Ashoka Road and towards Jaganmohan Palace.
Though the Police chalked out alternative routes, lack of publicity and absence of sign-boards have made matters worse especially for four and two-wheelers.
This morning too, there was neither traffic Police nor home guards at crucial junctions in the surroundings of K.R. Circle to guide the motorists.
According to the diversion plan prepared by the Police, to reach Hardinge Circle (Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Circle) from Gun House, vehicles must take the Nanjangud Road through Mantap-Truck Terminal-Race Course Road, and the road in front of Mysuru Zoo and Lokranjan Road.
To reach from Gun House Circle to Hardinge Circle, vehicles must take Mirza Road-Lokranjan Road and move through Karanji Lake Road-Boulevard Circle, Lalitha Mahal Road and Race Course Circle and reachGun House.
Buses proceeding from sub-urban bus stand towards T. Narsipur, Nanjangud and Bannur have to take Five-Light Circle, Northern gate of Government Guest House, Karnataka Police Academy, SP Office Circle, Chamundi Vihar Stadium, Nazarbad Circle, Karanji Lake Road and hit Boulevard Circle and Lalitha Mahal Road.
Vehicular movement from north to south on the road in front of Mysuru Zoo between Lokranjan Road Junction and Race Course Road Junction has been banned. Similarly, traffic movement from south to north on Karanji Lake Road from Race Course Boulevard and Lokranjan Road Junction has also been restricted.
