Herbaceous menace of parthenium

Sir,

Of late, many readers are writing about rampant growth of bushes, especially parthenium, in Mysuru. Mysuru has become like a shrub jungle with thick growth of this weed leading to severe breathing problems.

I reside in Ramakrishnanagar I Block where the growth of this plant has covered all vacant sites — private or government. It has become a convenient hideout for snakes. No wonder, we can find small jungle animals hiding in the neighbourhood if this is not cleared. The growth was so dense that a snake had crawled right into my kitchen through the window some time ago.

Site owners should understand the problems faced by residents residing near such vacant sites and take necessary action immediately.

I request both the MCC and MUDA to get this mess cleared and save the citizens from breathing problems.

The authorities can form a team to eradicate this weed and charge the private site owners accordingly. Though some private site owners get their sites cleared of this weed at regular intervals, some ask us to get it cleared by ourself.

The authorities should come with strict law to make the site owners clear this weed at least once in 2-3 months.
