Mysore: One of the heritage lamp posts at Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Circle, formerly known as Hardinge Circle, has gone missing.
Many heritage lamp posts were installed around the Circle during the development and beautification works and installation of the erstwhile king’s statue taken up about two-and-a-half years ago.
The missing lamp post is located near the bus stand between Nilgiri Road and Albert Victor Road. While the post has gone missing, the bottom part where the lamp post is fixed is remaining but damaged. It looks like miscreants may have used some tool to cut the lamp post as vehicles could not damage the lamp post as it is close to the footpath. It is to be known whether the lamp post have been broken due to gusty wind or stolen by miscreants.
As Mysuru is known as the ‘Heritage City’ and also ‘City of Palaces,’ developmental works are taken up keeping in mind the contributions of our erstwhile kings and to keep up the heritage looks. Hence, lamp posts with heritage looks were installed. Though these lamp posts look beautiful, they are not as strong as the previous ones which were made of cast iron.
If the public think and take up the responsibility of protecting public properties, such incidents would not occur.
