Mysuru: Upset over the hike in parking fee at City Railway Station, vehicle owners staged a protest at City Railway Station here last night.
The Railways in its order has increased the parking fee of bicycle from Rs. 6 to Rs. 8; Two-Wheelers – Rs. 15 to Rs. 25; Car – Rs. 25 to 50, besides charging double the actual fee for keeping helmets, which is a burden for commuters, said vehicle owners, who demanded monthly pass facility and reduction in helmet keeping fee.
Meanwhile, Kumar, who has been awarded the tender of the parking lot, said that he was awarded the tender for Rs. 5.7 crore after agreeing to the terms and conditions of the Railways and added that he had no role in the hike in parking fee as the parking fee is hiked by the Railway authorities.
MP Pratap Simha, who rushed to the spot heard the grievances of vehicle owners assured them of solving the problem in two days and instructed parking contractor Kumar to collect parking fee at old rates for which Kumar agreed.
The MP then spoke to the Railway authorities over phone and asked them to call for a Railway Consumers Committee meeting soon. He then took pictures of the new parking fee list board and forwarded the same to the Union Railway Minister besides urging him to solve the issue.
