Mysuru: Two Himalayan black bears have got a new enclosure at Mysuru Zoo.
The newly-constructed enclosure was inaugurated by District In-charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa yesterday. The bears, Arun and Suchitra, were released into the new facility. Another Himalayan bear, Ashwath, had been retained at the old enclosure.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Mahadevappa said that more attractions will be added to the Zoo which is completing 125 years.
Regarding the long-pending Zoo Aquarium project, the Minister said that steps would be taken to complete the works. The project requires Rs. 10 crore more and he would discuss the issue with Chief Minister Siddharamaiah. For the record, the aquarium project began eight years ago.
The Minister later visited the chimpanzee enclosures and fed the primates with fruits. He later planted a sapling near the giraffe enclosure as part of World Environment Day celebrations at the Zoo. Zoo Authority of Karnataka Chairperson Mallige Veeresh, Zoo Executive Director Kamala Karikalan, MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, MUDA Chairman D. Dhruvakumar and others accompanied the Minister.
