Mysuru: Raag Milan is organising a Hindustani Flute recital by Ravi Shankar Mishra and a Tabla solo by Gowrisankar (Kolkata) at Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, Yadavagiri (KRS Road) on Dec. 14 (Saturday) at 5.30 pm.
‘Sur Mani Ravi Shankar Mishra’ is one of the finest flautists of the young generation. Born in 1970 at Kolkata, he started his music lessons under his father Pandit Dinesh Chandra Mishra. In 1994 he was accepted as a disciple by flute maestro Pandit Nityanand Haldipur of Mumbai. He has also received guidance from Padmabushan late Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan whom he reveres as his mentor and guide.
Ravi has performed at the UNESCO (Paris) for an audience exceeding 10,000. He has played at the Halim Academy of Sitar, Mumbai, Haridas Sangeeth Sammelan and Sangeeth Pratistan. He is a regular performer for yoga students across the globe. Ravi has collaborated with many jazz musicians from USA and with leading musicians of the country. Till date he has recorded 10 albums.
The second half of the evening will be a Tabla solo by Gowrisankar, a leading tabla maestro of the present generation. Born in 1964, Gowrisankar began studying tabla at a young age of 3 under the guidance of his father Pandit Shiv Shankar Karmakar, a noted disciple of the tabla Maestro late Ustad Karamatulla Khan.
Since 1979, he has been under the tutelage of the tabla Maestro Pandit Sankha Chatterjee. Gowrisankar is an A grade artiste of All India Radio and television. In 2008 he established the ‘School of Indian Percussion and Music’ in Austin, Texas. He has accompanied eminent artistes such as Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Jasraj, Rahul Sharma, Rakesh Chaurasia, Indarjit Banerjee. Gourisankar has also collaborated with various world famous musicians and legendary Karnatak musicians.
