Mysore/Mysuru: City’s Gayana Sabha has organised a Hindustani music concert by vocalists Lakshminarayana Bhat and Asha Ganapathy on Feb. 22 at Kalpakshetra Academy auditorium here in Vijayanagar.
The vocalists will be accompanied by Bhimashankar Bidanur on tabla and Deepak Nagannavar on harmonium.
Artistes’ Profiles: A native of Uttara Kannada district, Lakshminarayana Bhat started learning classical music from Sujatha Hegde, Ganapathi Hegde and Vani Hegde. He completed Master’s Degree in Music from Karnatak University, Dharwad while he was training under Dr. Shantharam Hegde, a disciple of Pandit Basavaraja Rajaguru. Bhat is also a recipient of National Scholarship by Ministry of Culture. He has performed at multiple formal and informal venues across the country. Some of the notable performances include Hampi Utsav; Dharwad Utsav, Kala Academy, Panjim; and at prestigious platforms in Chennai, Madurai, Thanjavur and Chidambaram. He also sings Abhangs, light classical and Bhajans.
Asha Ganpathy was initiated into classical music by Mahesh Khatiriya at Surat and subsequently from Anant Bhagwath in Bangalore. Presently, she is pursuing advanced training with Pandit Ajay Chakravarthy, Kolkota. Asha was adjudged the Best Singer in events organised by Lions Club of Surat. She has also won prizes in competitions held by Ramana Maharishi Centre, Bengaluru. In addition to being a graded artiste of All India Radio in classical and devotional music, Asha is also a practicing Music Therapist and Vice-President of Indian Music Therapy Association.
She has performed in renowned platforms including Indian Institute of Work; Purandara Mantapa, Nirman Shelters; Shri Puttaraj Gawai Smarananjali, Mysuru; Ramanavami Music Concerts and Sri Krishna Dhama, Mysuru. An engineer by profession, Asha holds a M.S. degree in Software Systems from BITS Pilani and is a Principal Member of Technical Staff in Oracle India Pvt. Ltd.
