Mysuru/Mysore: Hinkal Gram Panchayat Secretary Rajanna (52), was killed in a road accident near Ring Road-Preethi Layout junction here on Sunday evening.
Rajanna was proceeding on his Honda Activa (KA-09 HH-7044) when a speeding Maruti Swift car (KA-09 ME-7011) hit the scooter near Ring Road-Preethi Layout junction. Due to the impact, the scooter got stuck to the car and Rajanna fell on the bonnet. But the man behind the wheels of the car continued to drive resulting in Rajanna falling down from the bonnet.
Rajanna, who was seriously injured, was rushed to K.R. Hospital in a goods vehicle, where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead,’ according to the Police.
After the accident, the car driver tried to flee from the spot. The public, who saw the car speeding away, began to chase him. The car, which was proceeding towards Manandawadi Road, hit a roadside electric pole near Udbur village and toppled.
The public, who had followed the car, caught hold of the driver, who had escaped miraculously and handed him over to Jayapura Police. The Police, upon enquiry, came to know that the driver’s name was P. Dhananjay of Kumbarakoppal, who was working in a private company in the city.
K.R. Police, who have registered a case, said that the accused, was actually driving a friend’s car.
