Hockey Mysore Invitation Cup-2024 began at the University of Mysore (UoM) Hockey Grounds here on Thursday. The Tournament was inaugurated by UoM Department of Physical Education (DPE) Director Dr. C. Venkatesh and Mandovi Motors Pvt. Ltd Vice-President P.M. Ganapathy.
In the inaugural match played between AGORC and Gadag, AGORC reigned supreme 3-0, while DYES, Bengaluru, overcame Dharwad with a score of 12-0 in the other match.
A total of 12 teams including top 5 district teams (Dharwad, Hassan, Raichur, Belagavi and Ballari) and top 5 institutional teams (AGORC, Customs, DYES, MEG Boys and South Western Railway) will be vying for the coveted Cup during the three-day tournament.
This apart, two teams from Kodadva Hockey Academy (Kuppanda Kaikeri and Nellamakada), who are the winners of last year’s Appachettolanda Cup, are also taking part in the tournament.
The winners will walk away with a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh; Runner – Rs. 1.5 lakh; Third place – Rs. 1 lakh and Fourth place – Rs. 50,000 along with the trophies.
Former Corporators M.U. Subbaiah and Shivakumar, Hockey Mysore President K.B. Dilip, Secretary C.T. Satish and others were present during the inauguration.
