Hostel workers seek revised salary arrears

Mysore/Mysuru: Pressing for fulfilment of various demands, the outsource staff of various student hostels in the district, staged a protest opposite Mysuru Zilla Panchayat Office, on Krishnaraja Boulevard Road in city yesterday.

The cooks, assistant cooks and guards working on outsource basis at the hostels, staged the protest and staged a protest  under the banner of Karnataka State Composite Hostel Workers Union affiliated to All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), urging for clearance of arrears of revised minimum pay fixed by the State Government in Dec. 2022, clearance of arrears of pending salary of last two to three months, payment of pending PF contribution or filing of case against respective agency,  payment  of Overtime (OT) for the said staff working during National Festivals and Week Offs and reinstating Ramesh in T. Narasipur taluk and Rajesh Kumar in Hunsur taluk, removed by Social Welfare Department.

As per the Act, the contractor should issue appointment letter, ESI card and salary slip to all the workers. The workers are also being pressurised to buy uniform on their own. As per law, uniform should be either provided for free or workers should not be forced to wear it. A notice containing the list of General Holidays and National Festivals and Restricted Holidays along with the Weekly Off dates of those working on outsource basis at hostels, should be displayed on the notice board.  Attendance book should also be maintained for outsourced workers at hostels and record their attendance. The salary should be paid within fifth of every month, the protesters demanded further.

Lokesh, Shivanna, A. Rajesh Kumar, Sandhya Rani, Dhanalakshmi, Bheema Nayaka, P.T. Srinivas, Chandraiah, Raju, Basava, Basavaraju, Mahadeva, Siddaraju, Shivamurthy, Vijaykumar, Rakshit Kumar and others took part in the protest.
