An incident of house maids, who were hired to clean the house for Shivarathri festival, decamping with jewellery worth Rs. 8.54 lakh, has been reported from V.V. Puram Police limits in city.
It is reported that the two women identified as Latha, a resident of Yadavagiri and Devamma, were hired to clean the house of T.P. Vishwanath on Feb. 20 for Shivarathri festival.
The women, who went to clean the house on Feb. 20, lifted a cover containing 47 gram gold necklace, three gram finger ring, a pair of bangles weighing 24.67 grams, two earrings weighing 4.6 and 4.72 grams each, 15.2 grams locket, four grams earrings, seven grams diamond ring, 15.2 grams bracelet, two necklaces weighing 31.2 and 33.3 grams each and 64.8 grams gold chain, all worth about Rs. 8.54 lakh which was kept in the almirah.
Vishwanath, who was in a hurry to go out of station for his father’s ceremony, had forgotten to lock the almirah, and the theft came to light when he returned back.
He later lodged a complaint at V.V. Puram Police Station in this regard. V.V. Puram Police, who have registered a case in this regard, have arrested Latha, one of the accused and have launched a hunt to nab the other, who is absconding.
