Hunsur lecturer bags National Teacher Award

Mysuru: H.N. Girish, a Biology lecturer in Government Girls PU College, Hunsur, has been awarded the prestigious ‘National Teacher Award-2024’ by Ministry of Education, Government of India, to one of the finest teachers of the country for their unique contribution in the field of education and commitment to enrich the quality of life of their students.

A total of 50 teachers across the country have been selected for this year’s award. Girish has the distinction of being the first lecturer from Karnataka to bag this award which till now was given to high school teachers of the State. He was given Best Teacher Award by the State Government last year. He was also bestowed with G-20 National Education Excellence Award at Noida just a few days back.

Girish, who is in teaching profession for over three decades, has worked tirelessly to remove misconceptions in society about AIDS and menstruation among girl students. In addition to providing treatment to AIDS patients, he has constructed  ‘AIDS Amma’ temple about 25 years ago at a place near T. Narasipur to create awareness about AIDS.

Girish is continuously working for the development of Government Girls College at Hunsur through CSR funds and has provided all facilities that are available in top private colleges.

The Biology lab is modern in Hunsur college and it has internet and wi-fi facilities. Thanks to his untiring efforts this Government College is recording 100% result in II PU results.
