Mysore/Mysuru: In a tragic turn of events and some quirk of fate, a man suffered a fatal heart attack following the suicide of his wife at their residence in Vivekananda Nagar in the city on Friday.
The couple, Manjunath (58), an Electrical Engineer at the Divisional Railway Workshop in Ashokapuram, and his wife Vijayalakshmi (54), were residents of Vivekananda Nagar.
The couple’s relationship appeared normal until Vijayalakshmi began experiencing insomnia around three to four years ago which led her to mental depression. According to Manjunath, his wife was lively on Friday when he came home for lunch at around 2 pm.
However, upon his return from work at approximately 6 pm, he found the door locked, and despite his repeated attempts to gain entry, there was no response.
With the help of his neighbours, Manjunath broke open the door, only to discover his wife hanging from the ceiling fan with her churidar veil. The information was passed on to the Kuvempunagar Police who arrived at the scene. The Police subsequently shifted Vijayalakshmi’s body to the mortuary.
Soon after, Manjunath, in deep grief and shock, began experiencing chest pain and was swiftly taken to a private hospital where he breathed his last around midnight. The couple’s last rites are expected to take place after the arrival of one of their daughters from the USA today. Kuvempunagar Police Inspector Yogeesh has registered a case.
