Books ‘Vyuma Muruti Allama’ and ‘Jagada Nanta’ released
Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that ideas will crop up if there are intellectual conflicts between the mentor and the pupil, writer and former Karnataka Sahitya Academy Chairman Dr. B.V. Vasanthkumar said that, however, it is regretful to note that University Professors are making pupils as their followers, leaving little scope for independent thinking.
He was speaking at a programme to release writer Chandrashekharaiah’s books ‘Vyuma Muruti Allama’ and ‘Jagada Nanta’ under the joint aegis of Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha and Samvahana Prakashana at Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Bhavana here on Sunday.
Noting that the confrontation between Basavanna and his guru Vishnusharma over the original form of Brahminism gave rise to a new order at Bagewadi, Dr. Vasanthkumar said that the confrontation was not born out of hatred but for the cause of a societal transformation.
Pointing out that Basavanna opposed the stains in religion and this resulted in societal reforms in 12th century, he said that it was Basavanna who brought about change in the society through his Sharana Movement.
Seer Sri Sharatchandra Swamiji, who spoke after releasing the books, said that the problems and challenges that Basavanna and the Sharanas faced in the 12th century, persist even today.
Observing that historical novels and writings will give us the strength to drive away the problems, he opined that it is a challenge for the present day writers to ensure that the historical incidents are not distorted or twisted in their works.
Critic and former Kannada Book Authority Chairman Nandeesh Hanche too spoke and said, what the world badly needs today is peace, harmony and non-violence.
Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji graced the occasion. MLC Dr. D. Thimmaiah, veteran writer Prof. C.P. Krishnakumar (CPK), author Chandrashekaraiah, Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota President M. Chandrashekar, Publisher D.N. Lokappa of Samvahana Prakashana, Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva-Lingayat Mahasabha District President S. Shivamurthy Kaanya & others were present.
