Sir,
Apropos the news item ‘Illegal ad boards, posters to attract MCC action’ (SOM dated Feb. 17). It highlights the repetitive and largely ineffective measures taken by the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).
Back in 2002, when N. Jayaram served as the MCC Commissioner and Kumar as the Assistant Commissioner, a special team was formed to crack down on illegal boards and posters. However, despite an initial burst of enthusiasm, the campaign lost momentum due to political interference.
Since then, every succeeding MCC Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner has made similar promises to ban illegal boards and posters, but the outcome has been the same — only temporary removals.
As long as political interference persists, illegal boards and posters will continue to mar the beauty of our city.
