Mysuru; To mark the International Day of Immunology – 2018, the Division of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Department of Water and Health – Faculty of Life Sciences (D&W – FLS), JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, in association with Indian Immunological Society (IIS), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, had organised a one-day programme on the theme “Life Style Management and the Immune System” on Apr.30 at the JSS University campus here.
The main objective was to use immunology to address the major health challenges in India.
Dr. M.N. Kiran Kumar, Assistant Professor, Division of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, briefed about the importance of Immunology Day. Chief guest Prof. T. Veerabasappa Gowda, retired Professor, Department of Biochemistry, University of Mysore, stressed on the importance of immunology and how to inculcate modern day lifestyle to improve good health.
Special invitee Prof. H.S. Prakash, UGC-BSR Fellow, Department of Biotechnology, UoM, spoke about modern technology, start-up innovations, research facilities and funding opportunities from Government of India by encouraging students to carry-out high level innovative research on immunology, utilising JSS Medical College and Hospital for clinical samples.
The other dignitaries present were JSS AHER Registrar Dr. B. Manjunatha, JSS AHER Director (Academic) Dr. P. A. Kushalappa, JSS AHER Chairman Prof. Chandrashekarappa and HoD Dr. Dattatri K. Nagesha.
Dr. Joseph Kingston, Scientist, Defence Food Research Laboratory, delivered a special lecture on how lifestyle management plays a major role in improving good immune system.
Dr. T. S. Gopinath, Associate Professor, JSS AHER, proposed a vote of thanks. The event witnessed poster presentation and prize distribution.
