Implementation of Land Reforms Act: Farmers block Nanjangud Highway, term Centre as anti-farmer

Mysore/Mysuru: Following the call by Akhila Bharata Raitha Sangharsha Samanvaya Samithi for a State-wide stir against implementation of the amended Land Reforms Act in Karnataka, nearly 100 farmers under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene, terming the Central Govt. as anti-farmer, blocked the busy Nanjangud Highway on Thursday.

Led by Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene State President Badagalapura Nagendra, the farmers, who assembled at the Nanjangud Highway-Ring Road junction, formed a human chain and blocked the Highway.

Later, Nagendra and others burnt the copy of the Land Reforms Act ordinance.

Meanwhile, DCP Dr. A.N. Prakash Gowda and other Police officials, who reached the spot, told the farmers not to go against the law as they had not sought permission to stage protest, following which the farmers dispersed. But traffic on the busy Highway was disrupted for more than 30 minutes.

Sangha Secretary Hosakote Basavaraju, Mysuru APMC President Basavaraju, farmer leader Marankaiah were present.
