Kitchen Waste Biogas Plant at NIE-Boys’ Hostel is a green initiative by NIE-CREST (Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies). The biogas plant converts 18 tons of kitchen waste per year to biogas, a renewable and sustainable energy source. The biogas plant serves the purpose of waste management within NIE-Boys’ Hostel. The biogas generated is being supplied to the Kitchen of Boys’ Hostel and the slurry obtained as a by-product is utilised for gardening. This is an important step towards waste management taken by NIE and is a model for other institutions to replicate the best practices in waste management towards achieving clean Mysuru and Swachh Bharat.
