Through this column, I extend my appreciation to the local Yuva Brigade team for their silent social service in the temple town.
Recently I read a news report that a big banyan tree uprooted on the Nanjangud-Chamarajanagar Road while widening the stretch was moved safely and replanted by the team on Kapila River bank near the temple; took care by regular watering and ensured that the tree sprouts again.
Kudos to them. Besides, they are trained snake-catchers too, who respond to any calls if and when the reptile is spotted in residential houses, catch them safe and leave them free in the wild, in return for nothing. This kind of selfless service is unheard of nowadays and is really appreciable.
I personally experienced this when a snake was spotted in my kitchen at midnight (around 1.30 am). Though unwilling to disturb at that late hour but left with no other choice, I half-heartedly rang one of them, who was kind enough to reach me in the next 15 minutes and took it away safely. Had it not been for him, we all would have to spend the whole night outside. I profusely thank the team for the laudable gesture and eco-friendly attitude.
