The All-India Inter-University Men’s Kho-Kho Championship 2017-18, conducted by the Department of Physical Education (DPE), University of Mysore (UoM), was inaugurated by Mysuru Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep at the University Grounds here this morning, by releasing balloons in the air.
The other guests present were Prof. C. Basavaraju, in-Charge Vice-Chancellor, D. Bharathi, Registrar, UoM, Prof. B. Mahadevappa, Finance Officer, UoM, Dr. C. Krishna, retd. Director, DPE, UoM and Dr. P. Krishniah, in-Charge Director, DPE, UoM, Kumar, Syndicate Member and Grewal, AIU Observer.
Later the guests were introduced to the participating teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Randeep welcomed the participating teams from all over the country for the tournament on behalf of the District Administration. He said that the game of Kho-Kho is one of the traditional sports played in our country and is popular in different States.
The game involves lot of physical agility, mental acumen, strategy and this tournament gives all the participating teams a good opportunity to do well and exhibit their talent. He wished all the participants good luck and congratulated the UoM for hosting a tournament of this stature in this historical city.
The Ekalavya award winners (both Kho-Kho Federation of India & State) were felicitated on the occasion. The organisers also felicitated the University of Mysore’s silver medal winning team members (1974-75, 75-76) during the occasion.
In all, 16 teams from North, South, East and West Zones, divided into four pools will be taking part in the Tournament on a league-cum-knock-out basis.

Pool-A: Punjabi University, Patiala, University of Mumbai, University of North Bengal, Davangere University.
Pool-B: University of Mysore, University of Burdwan, Kurukshetra University and Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Pool-C: SRTMU, Nanded, MDU Rohtak, University of Calicut and Vidyasagar University.
Pool-D: VBSPU, Jaunpur, Mangalore University, Shivaji University and University of Delhi.
A total of 16 league matches are slated for the day today and the tournament concludes on Jan.24.
