Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Bagadi Gautham inaugurated the ten-day ‘Gandhi Shilp Bazaar,’ an expo of Handicrafts at JSS Urban Haat along the Ring Road at Hebbal on Friday.
The expo is organised by the office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the Nodal agency for preservation, promotion and protection of Indian Handicrafts.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bagadi Gautham stressed on the need for organisation of more such expos in order to promote handicrafts and artefacts on a much bigger scale.
Noting that the expo has more than 90 stalls, with manufacturers and sellers from across the country taking part, he said that the expo has a whole range of Handicrafts that also contain a variety of heritage, decorative and ornamental articles.
Maintaining that there are as many people who love Handicrafts as that of consumers of modern goods and gadgets, the DC observed that expos like this one will largely help in reaching out to Handicraft buyers.
More than 100 artisans from different parts of the country are taking part in the expo which is open to public between 10.30 am and 9 pm till Oct. 31.
JSS Mahavidyapeetha Executive Secretary Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Director – Audit and Accounts K.R. Santhanam, Joint Director of JSS Technical Education Division Dr. H.R. Mahadevaswamy, Assistant Director of Handicrafts Service Centre K.S. Sunil Kumar, Urban Haat Co-ordinator Rakesh Rai and others were present.
