Mysuru: Rotary Mysore, in association with Sri Vedavyasa Yoga Foundation, conducted an Indo-Israel Cultural Exchange Programme and honoured Army Veterans during the Republic Day celebrations at a gala event at Rotary Centre recently.
Freedom fighter M.K. Gopal Iyengar, 96, formerly of the Azad Hind Fauj, who had also participated in the Quit India Movement, along with Capt. N.V. Sridhar, formerly of the Indian Army, were honoured on the occasion.
Dr. Rafi Paled, Professor of Sanskrit at Israel’s Tel Aviv University and his team of Israeli yoga teachers and students were the visitors and were treated to a veritable feast of Indian classical dance under the leadership of Dance Guru Mysore B. Nagaraj.
While Bharatanatyam artiste Vid. Sandhya Muralidharan regaled the audience with the Radha-Krishna epic love story as well as the tillana, Kathak dancer Laxminarayan Jena took the audience through Kathak performed at the temples to the one performed at the Lucknow courts.
The audience that included students and general public as well as Rotarians was enraptured by the performance.
President of Rotary Mysore Rtn. G.S. Sumeeth, International Service Director Rtn. Amir Vagh participated in the event that was conducted by Dr. K. Raghavendra Pai.
