Inner Wheel Clubs plant 550 saplings at Torch Light Parade Grounds in city

Mysuru:  The Inner Wheel Club of Mysore in association with Inner Wheel Club of Mysore Central, Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) and Forest Department planted 550 saplings of different species at the Torch Light Parade Grounds in Bannimantap, here this morning.

The varieties of saplings that were planted around the ground included mahogany, tamarind, neem, jamoon (Nerale hannu) and spathodea.

MUDA Commissioner P.S. Kantharaj inaugurated the programme by watering a plant.

Inner Wheel Club of Mysore President Uma Mahesh, speaking to Star of Mysore, said that the National Association President of Inner Wheel Clubs had given a theme this year called ‘Branding and Environment’ and under this project, they had taken up planting of the saplings.

“MUDA gave us the land in Torch Light Parade Grounds and Forest Department gave 1,500 saplings free to be planted all around the grounds.  We also have plans of beautifying the Grounds,” she said.

Inner Wheel Clubs District Chairman Dr. Sarika Prasad, District Secretary Pushpa Gururaj, Inner Wheel Mysore Secretary Geethasri, Inner Wheel Mysore Central President Anitha Suresh, MUDA Executive Engineer Suresh Babu, Assistant Executive Engineer C. N. Lakshmeesh, MGP Secretary Venkatesh, member K.S. Narasimhamurthy, Forest Officer Vijay Kumar and others were present.
