Mysore/Mysuru: As part of its efforts to save precious water and promote rainwater harvesting, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has announced that it will give 10 percent discount in water bills from Feb. 1 if rainwater harvesting systems are installed in households.
Consumers will get a rebate on the actual bill if they submit details of rainwater harvesting to the MCC authorities in the prescribed format. In a press release, the MCC has said that the 10 percent discount is applicable not only to domestic connections but also to non-domestic, commercial and industrial connections.
The rebate is applicable to those who have already installed the system. Those who do not have the system can install it if they wish to get the rebate every month from Feb. 1 onwards, the MCC has stated.
However, the civic body has clarified that the rebate is valid on the water consumed and the discount will not apply to the underground drainage cess collected as part of the bill.
Consumers have to get their rainwater systems certified from the Executive Engineer of the MCC once a year so as to get the rebate every year without any break. The engineer will visit their houses to authenticate and certify the rainwater harvesting process.
Applications can be down-loaded from MCC website http://mysurucity.mrc.gov.in/en/forms and duly filled in forms along with all necessary documents can be submitted to the office of Vani Vilas Water Works at Yadavagiri.
