Hunsur: The Eighth Additional District Court at Hunsur has sentenced eight inter-State robbers to 5 years imprisonment besides imposing a penalty of Rs. 25,000 on each of them, for attempting to loot a Bank Manager.
Joseph Christy and Sri Kumar of Wayanad in Kerala, Kiran and Mohammad Arafat of Kushalnagar, Channappa and Vittal of Periyapatna and Krishna of Kalkunike, Hunsur, are the ones who are sentenced, while the eighth accused has not yet been traced.
The gang had intercepted Bylakuppe Corporation Bank Manager Girish when he was on his way to Kushalnagar on his motorcycle in Aug. 2012, in a bid to loot him. But as Girish screamed for help, the Police swung into action and arrested seven out of the eight members after chasing them, while one gang member managed to escape.
The Police, after conducting investigation, submitted charge-sheet in the Court against the accused.
Judge B.S. Jayashree, who heard the case, convicted the accused of the charges and sentenced them.
