Mysuru: Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPC), in association with District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and Department of Women and Child Welfare, had organised an interaction on ‘Problems of tribal and nomadic children and solutions’ at JSS Law College premises in Kuvempunagar here yesterday.
About 60 representatives of various NGOs participated in the programme.
Inaugurating the programme, KSCPC Chairperson Dr. Kripa Amar Alva recalled her visit to a Girijana Ashrama School in H.D. Kote some time ago. She said that none of the children was found in any classroom, where empty bottles of liquor and beedis were found justifying the usage of the premises for immoral activities.
She hence pointed out that the policies of the Government regarding tribals should be properly implemented. She contended that only then sustainable development was possible for the tribe.
Dr. Balagurumurthy, Nodal Officer, Social Welfare Department, presided. KSCPC Members Y. Mariswamy, Vanitha, Child Welfare Committee Chairperson H.T. Kamala, Department of Women and Child Welfare Dy. Director K. Radha, Karnataka Adivasi Rakshana Parishat President. Dr. M. Krishnaiah and others were present.
