Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy announced that the Mysuru district will mark International Day of Democracy on Sept. 15 by forming a 60-kilometre-long human chain.
Speaking at a preliminary meeting at the Zilla Panchayat Hall, he emphasised the event’s theme: ‘Human chain in Karnataka for democracy.’
The human chain will be created from 8.30 am to 9.30 am, stretching from Siddalingapura on the Mysuru-Bengaluru road to the Town Hall in Mysuru, where participants will garland the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The event aims to involve approximately 60,000 participants, including officers, staff, the general public, students, NCC and NSS volunteers, Scouts and Guides, Pourakarmikas, Gram Panchayat members, and association activists.
Section Officers will be assigned every 100 metres, with Area Officers covering each kilometre and Taluk Officers managing multiple kilometres to coordinate the crowd and ensure smooth formation.
Zilla Panchayat CEO K.M. Gayathri stressed the importance of meticulous planning and deployment of officers at designated distances to ensure the event’s success.
Meeting attendees, including leaders from various associations, advocated for extensive publicity through pamphlets and posters to encourage widespread participation.
The meeting was attended by Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Commissioner A.N. Raghunandan, Joint Director of the Social Welfare Department Rangegowda, and various district and taluk level officers, along with heads of educational institutions and associations.
Human chain route
The human chain will span from Siddalingapura on the Mysuru-Bengaluru road and extend through key locations including Manipal Hospital Junction (formerly Columbia Asia Hospital), Fountain Circle, the garlanding of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue at Town Hall, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Circle (formerly Hardinge Circle), Zoo, Lalitha Mahal Road, T. Narasipura Road, and will merge with the human chain organised by the Chamarajanagar District Administration at the district border.
