Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Microbiology and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, Jayalakshmipuram, in association with the Indian Immunology Society, New Delhi, hosted an inter-college poster-making competition and interactive sessions to celebrate the International Day of Immunology-2024.
The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of students, faculty and distinguished guests eager to delve into the latest advancements and challenges in the field.
This year’s celebration, themed “Immunity Through the Ages: Navigating the Science of Aging and Immunology,” aimed to highlight the critical connections between ageing and immunology and its practical applications in fighting diseases and promoting well-being in old age.
The celebration began with the inauguration of the poster-making competition, led by Dr. S.R. Ramesh, Chief Scientist, School of Life Sciences, Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Education Centre, Dr. B.R. Jayakumari, Principal, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College and Dr. M.N. Kiran Kumar, distinguished Resource Person, Assistant Professor and UG-Course Coordinator, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research.
Twenty-five teams from many colleges participated in the competition on the theme “Aging and Immunity.” Dr. Girish Chandran, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Department of Studies in Biochemistry and Smitha Grace, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Department of Studies in Biotechnology, School of Life Sciences, Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Education Centre, evaluated the posters.
Dr. T. Vijayalakshmi Muralidhar, Hon. Secretary, Mahajana Education Society, Principal, CEO & Academic Advisor, Dr. Kiran Kumar and the Life Sciences faculty inaugurated the event. The technical talks on ageing, thymus, immunity and age-related immune disorders were delivered by Dr. S.R. Ramesh and Dr. Kiran Kumar.
Spandana, HoD of Microbiology and faculty K. Shreeja and Zuha Afsha organised the event. The 1st prize was bagged by V. Vijayasree and Siddanth Yadhav, JSS AHER, while 2nd prize went to Veeresh and Samith from SBRR Mahajana FGC.
