Iron bollards: Some thoughts

Sir,

Apropos to the article “MCC hits upon novel idea” (Star of Mysore dated July 23), I have a few thoughts which may be debated.

Even though the idea may be novel of the MCC to introduce Iron Bollards to end parking and hawking menace, my question was, has the MCC considered the plight of the differently-abled and the blind who may have to walk on these footpaths?

Agreed that to an extent it may curb the parking menace, knowing our ever-innovative street vendors, they may next get a plank or a table, which may fit perfectly between these bollards, settle comfortably by sitting in a chair, and continue their business, which otherwise they would have had to squat on the floor and do.

Globally, such bollards are mainly used for traffic regulation and only here we are using it for a different purpose. My request is before considering this as a solution and investing further in other areas, MCC should study the pros and cons and wait for few months to see if it has served the purpose.
