Is the Government alone to blame for garbage crisis?

Sir,

Quite often, the citizens raise civic issues in Mysuru and rightly question the services provided by the local government authorities. Here in SBM Layout, Bogadi, garbage dumping is going on openly by some people.

The sad part is that garbage is dumped right under the tree at SBM Layout entrance where a board clearly stating ‘Do not throw garbage here’ is placed.

The same is witnessed on the road at the entrance of Basaveshwara Mantapa in Bogadi. The apathy of those residents who dump such garbage openly is appalling.

The local Bogadi Panchayat is now providing door-to-door garbage collection services two times a week and trying its best to keep the area clean. When such is the case, shouldn’t the public also behave responsibly and keep the area clean?

Such open dumping of garbage causes health hazards — it can lead to outbreak of diseases and it attracts a lot of unwanted stray animals such as dogs and rats which then keep roaming all over in the area.

Can the government alone be blamed for such garbage problems across the city? Better civic sense must prevail among we the citizens too.
