Jawa bike rally, Tonga ride, heritage walk awaits you

Mysuru: As part of Dasara Festival 2024, the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage has organised a series of events from Oct. 4 to 6, starting from Rangacharlu Memorial Town Hall at 7 am.

Jawa motorbike rally

On Oct. 4, a traditional Jawa motorbike rally will take place. Youths, students and men, aged between 25 and 50, can register to participate in the rally. The first 10 applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis and participants must use only Jawa motorbikes.

The rally will start at Rangacharlu Memorial Town Hall and follow a route through Silver Jubilee Clock Tower, Freemasons Club, Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle, KR Circle, Lansdowne Building, D. Banumaiah’s College, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) office, Maharaja Sanskrit College, CADA-Public Office, Mysore Palace (Varaha Gate), Gun House, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Circle, Curzon Park, Band House, Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) main gate, Hotel Lalitha Mahal Palace, Postal Training Centre (PTC), District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and conclude near the Archaeology, Museums and Heritage office.

Tonga ride for traditionally dressed couples

On Oct. 5, a tonga ride for traditionally dressed couples will be organised. Couples, aged 25 to 55 can register, with priority given to the first 50 couples, will take part.

The ride will be flagged off from Town Hall and will proceed through Silver Jubilee Clock Tower, Freemasons Club, Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle, Lansdowne Building, Jaganmohan Palace, Parakala Mutt, Seshadri House (Commercial Tax Office), Padmalaya, Old DC’s Office, Crawford Hall, Hotel Metropole, City Railway Station Junction, K.R. Hospital Circle, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), Government Ayurveda Hospital, Chamarajendra Technical Institute, Cauvery Emporium, Gandhi Square and will end at the Town Hall.

Heritage walk

A heritage walk will be held on Oct. 6 for students, men and women, aged 18 to 50. The first 200 registrants will be prioritised.

The walk will begin at the Town Hall and pass through Silver Jubilee Clock Tower, Freemasons Club, Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle, Mysore Palace, KR Circle, Dufferin Clock Tower, Devaraja Market, K.R. Hospital, MMC&RI, Government Ayurveda Medical College, Chamarajendra Technical Institute, Cauvery Emporium, Gandhi Square and will culminate at the starting point.

Throughout the three-day programme, historians and archaeology experts will introduce participants to various heritage buildings in the city.
