Mysuru: ‘Mahila Dasara’ was inaugurated by the Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Jayamala at JK Grounds yesterday.
‘Udyama Sambhrama’, an exhibition-cum-product sale of goods made by the Sthree Shakti Groups across the State was the magnus opus of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, actress Jayamala opined that women’s hidden talents should be identified and channelised well. She assured that the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Department would provide all assistance to promote and nurture talents in women.
The expo featured about 50 stalls where women from various Sthree Shakti Groups showcasing cotton sarees, toys, fashion jewellery, mango products, sweaters, rare variety of pickles, home-made cosmetics, cane products, earthen pots, lamps, bags, purses and many more articles.
Poor arrangement
The women complained that though they were assured of one stall per group, the 50 stalls were bifurcated with no proper partition. Women were provided with small stall enclosures, where they had to store and exhibit the products.
Adding to them, the portion of JK Grounds where the stalls have been erected have not been cleared. The area is strewn with dense growth of shrubs and thorns making it inconvenient for everyone to move freely.
The cultural programme, ‘Chinnara Dasara’ will be held from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm, whereas ‘Chinnara Kalarava’ will be held from 4.30 pm to 9.30 pm at the Grounds.
