Thiruvananthapuram: JD(S) has bagged two seats in the recently held Kerala Assembly elections for which the counting was held yesterday.
While Mathew T. Thomas won from Thiruvalla Constituency, K. Krishnankutty has won from Chittur Constituency.
Mathew T. Thomas of JD(S) won against KC(J) candidate Kunju Koshy Paul by 11,421 votes. Key candidates who contested from Thiruvalla Constituency were Mathew T. Thomas of JD(S), Kunju Koshy Paul of KC(J) and Ashokan Kulanada of BJP.
Thiruvalla Assembly Constituency falls in Thiruvananthapuram (Travancore) region and Pathanamthitta district of Kerala that went to the polls in a single phase on Apr. 6, 2021. In the 2016 Assembly polls, Mathew T.. Thomas had won the Thiruvalla seat by defeating Joseph M. Puthussery of Kerala Congress (KECM) by a margin of 8,262 votes. Mathew had also won the seat in 2011 against KECM candidate Victor T. Thomas by a margin of 10,767 votes.
K. Krishnankutty, who won from Chittur Constituency, defeated his nearest rival Sumesh Achuthan of Congress by a margin of 33,878 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly election, K. Krishnankutty polled 69,270 votes, defeating sitting MLA K. Achuthan, who had received 61,985 votes. BJP nominee M. Sasikumar came third with 12,537 votes.
