JIGYASA initiative connects Scientist-Student at CFTRI

Mysuru: “JIGYASA” is one of the major initiatives taken up by CSIR at National-level for further widening and deepening its Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathans (KVS). The programme focusses on connecting school students and scientists to inculcate the culture of scientific thinking in children at the school-level.  Starting from the current year, such programmes are held for students from Navodaya and Govt. Schools along with KVs.

As part of JIGYASA on Nov. 27 and 28, 83 students and 10 teachers from schools such as Govt. High School-Vontikoppal, GHS-Vinayakanagar and Maharaja High School participated in the event at CSIR-CFTRI. 

Food processing demonstrations and visit to various pilot plants, and sophisticated instrumentation facility were also arranged as part of the programme.  Identification of various food adulterants with a kit developed by CFTRI gave an opportunity for students to understand importance of food safety to health and well-being  of the society. 

Simple and interesting experiments of Microbiology, Chromatography and recombinant DNA technology were shown during practical sessions. The valedictory function was presided by                                                               Dr. R. Subramanian, Chief Scientist, CSIR-CFTRI.

CSIR- CFTRI has been conducting such student-scientist connect programme since 2017 for the students and teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and other Govt. Schools from Mysuru and neighbouring districts.
