Job Mela marks World Skill Day

Mysuru: Marking World Skill Day, a Job Mela was organised by the District Employment Exchange in NR Mohalla here on Monday.

Hundreds of candidates, who have passed SSLC, PUC, ITI, Diploma and Degree courses, attended the event.

Twelve companies participated in the Mela to recruit candidates for suitable posts.

Inaugurating the programme, Department of Industrial Training and Employment Deputy Director Ravi Shankar asked the candidates to be optimistic and confident. He hailed the event as a good platform for a direct contact between employers and candidates.

He cautioned candidates not to be lured by dubious agents promising a job for money. He suggested eligible candidates to appear for competitive examinations.

A total of 402 candidates comprising 210 men and 192 women, attended the interviews conducted by various companies and 107 candidates (64 men and 43 women) were selected.

Though the participating companies intended to fill up 600 posts only 107 could make it. It probably gives a message that candidates need to hone their communication and relevant soft skills other than acquiring the essential basic qualification.

District Employment Exchange Assistant Director D.M. Rani and others were present.
