Job-seekers to protest overnight

Mysuru: Accusing the management of Asian Paints  Limited in Himmavu Industrial Area of Nanjangud taluk of failing to provide jobs to locals and children of land-losers, members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, led by its District Unit President C. Ramegowda Vidyasagar, has decided to stage overnight indefinite strike outside the company from May 15.

Speaking to reporters at Pathrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, Ramegowda Vidyasagar alleged that company had promised to provide jobs to locals and to children of the farmers who provided land to set up this factory, but the management of the firm is recruiting outsiders in large numbers and denying jobs to locals.

“Though the then Chief Minister Siddharamaiah conducted the meeting with District Administration, Management of the factory in 2017 and issued directions to provide jobs to localities, the Management failed to follow the orders of the Government. Likewise, many other industries are coming up in Tandya,  Ankanahalli and Himmavau village in Varuna Assembly segment, but Management of these firms are denying jobs to localites,” he complained.

He said that  State Government acquired the land from farmers to set up industries after promising them to provide jobs, generating employment and boosting economic activities in the region and also provide land, water, power and other facilities to these industrialists, but many factories failed to provide jobs to localites. Though the Government not ready to ease drinking water in the region, but it is supplying bulk water for these industries,” he charged.

He demanded the Management of the industries to provide permanent jobs to localites instead of appointing them on contract basis.
