Mysore/Mysuru: JSS Dental College and Hospital, as part of World Autism Day, conducted a oral health screening and educational camp at Aashiana – Institute for Special Children at Udayagiri, in city recently.
The Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry of JSS Dental College and Hospital (JSS DCH), under the theme Special Smiles – Extension of Oral Care Services for Children with Special Health Care Needs and Medically Compromised Conditions, conducted camp.
The event commenced with a prayer by the students of the Aashiana Institute.
The camp was led by Dr. H.P. Chanchala and Dr. Raghavendra Shanbhog. JSS DCH Principal Dr. M.R. Dhakshaini presided.
The resource faculty were Associate Professor, Department of Paediatrics Dr. N. Rashmi, Professor and HoD of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry Dr. B. Nandlal, Professor at the Department of Anatomy Dr. Deepa Bhat, Reader Dr. Raghavendra Shanbhog and Lecturer Dr. H.P. Chanchala.
The camp emphasised on educating parents to maintain their children’s oral health, giving importance to diet and dental caries and an insight was provided on over usage of mobile phones and its risks in young children.
The programme also provided an overview on the role of genetic and environmental factors in the causation of Autism. Significance of the modes of prevention and early intervention was delivered in the session.
The camp was supported by the Interns Dr. Sahana Patil, Dr. Samyuka Gowda and Dr. Sara.
Indoco Warren Pharma-ceuticals distributed paediatric toothpaste and oral hygiene kits.
Masuma Vagh, President of the Institute and others were present on the occasion. All students were screened and provided with oral hygiene kits.
