New Delhi: K.N. Shanth Kumar, Director of The Printers (Mysore) Pvt. Ltd., was elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Press Trust of India (PTI) for a one-year term on Friday. Shanth Kumar’s election occurred during a meeting of PTI’s Board of Directors following their Annual General Meeting at the news agency’s headquarters in New Delhi.
Praveen Someshwar, the CEO of Hindustan Times, was elected as the Vice-Chairman.
Shanth Kumar succeeds Aveek Sarkar, who served as the Chairman for two consecutive terms.
“It is a privilege to lead PTI during this exciting transformation, especially following the recent launch of our video service,” said Shanth Kumar. Shanth Kumar, aged 62, has been actively involved in managing The Printers (Mysore) Pvt. Ltd. since 1983. He has also served as Chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for over 20 years.
This marks Shanth Kumar’s second term as the Chairman of PTI, the previous one being from 2013 to 2014.
The Printers (Mysore) Pvt. Ltd. publishes the English daily Deccan Herald, the Kannada language daily Prajavani, Sudha and Mayura magazines from its headquarters in Bengaluru.
