Mysore/Mysuru: Sixth Additional District and Sessions Court of Mangaluru has sentenced a person to Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for molesting a medical student at a hostel in Mangaluru and robbing her of money and ATM card.
The accused, Nagesh aka Naagu (30), a resident of K.R. Nagar in Mysuru district, had gained entry into a hostel on the outskirts of Mangaluru on December 5, 2017, tied hands and legs of a medic and had molested her. Then he escaped with cash and ATM card.
The case was registered by Police Inspector Gopikrishna of Ullal Police Station and it was further investigated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Uma Prashanth. Subsequently, the charge-sheet was filed in the Mangaluru Court.
The case came up for hearing before Saidunnisa, Judge of sixth Additional District and Sessions Court, who after going all documentary evidences and the statement of witnesses, sentenced him to seven-year Rigorous Imprisonment plus a fine of Rs. 10,000. If he fails to pay fine amount, he must undergo one more year of simple imprisonment; another seven years of jail term and Rs.10,000 fine for threatening and an additional one year simple imprisonment if failed to pay penalty; and five years of RI and Rs. 5,000 fine amount for sexual harassment and an additional one year simple imprisonment if failed to pay the fine amount.
Jairam Shetty, Public Prosecutor, argued on behalf of the Government. As many as 25 witnesses were examined during trial.
